Groupon Asks Shane McMenamin, Club Professional at Glynneath Golf Club, about his golfing tips and ideal patron.
G: What’s your favourite hole?
"Personally, the 5th hole is my favourite. Its tee is situated at the most elevated point on the course, providing a superb view over the Vale of Neath. It's largely downhill: a relatively easy drive leaves a thought-provoking approach shot into an interestingly shaped green that is wider than it is deep; over-shooting the green isn't uncommon, necessitating a difficult chip back onto the green. A well-positioned bunker in front of the green guards it from under-hit approach shots."
G: What do most people find challenging about the course?
"It is quite a tight course with lots of trees and undergrowth. We've put a lot of effort into clearing specific areas to make the course more user-friendly and enjoyable for visiting golfers."
G: If you could play a round of golf with one famous person, who would it be and why?
"Richard Branson – four hours with him would give an opportunity to pick the brains of a great entrepreneurial mind. It would be particularly interesting to hear his views on the golf industry from a commercial perspective."
