G; What’s the best thing about playing golf at your club?
"With a small clubhouse, you will never be just a number. Everyone is treated as an individual. Too often the corporate giants see you as pound sign. We look after our golfers whether they are members, guests or visitors, we guarantee a warm welcome. We want people to enjoy their experience and tell their friends. Our business ethos is based on encouraging repeat business. We have societies who visited us in our first year and have played here every year since. Relationships are important to us."
What do most people find challenging about the course?
"On paper the course is quite short by modern standards, but it actually plays longer than you think. The main challenge is the small, undulating greens. With investment made on turf care through feed and hardware, they play well with many subtle breaks. Shortside yourself and par becomes difficult. We don't have real cardwreckers but you can easily get on a bogey run that you can't break free from."
How would you describe the club house?
"Compact and bijou. We have plans to develop the changing and catering facilities, but still want to retain that homely feel. Everyone fights for the corner settees where you can rest those weary limbs after 18 holes."
If you could play a round of golf with one famous person, who would it be?
"Alice Cooper; I've just finished reading a biography and he's an amazing character. Who says golfers are boring?"
